Nate Bynum

Nate is a senior professor of theatre

and an active member of all professional acting guilds (SAG/AFTRA and AEA). A Graduate Dean’s Fellow from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Nate formerly held a tenured position at Mississippi State University and has taught at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Nate founded the acting for the camera program at UNLV and created its curriculum. He is an experienced teacher in a wide range of courses at the university level (acting, directing, movement, voice and dramatic literature).

Bynum specializes in on-screen acting and maintains a visible presence in Hollywood, regularly guest-starring alongside industry A-listers. Onstage, he has performed at the Lyceum Theatre in Missouri, the American Stage in Florida, and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock. Currently shooting 5 episodes on Netflix’s The Outer Banks, his recent television and movie credits include: Wu-Tang: An American Saga, How To Get Away With Murder, The Rookie, Iron Man 3, Grey’s Anatomy, and various Hallmark Christmas films. Additionally, Bynum has appeared in a number of regional and national commercials.

As a screenwriter, he is the winner of the Big Apple Film Festival (BAFF) in the Episodic/Series (drama) Fall 2023 category, and in current placement status in various screenwriting competitions across the country.

Regularly requested to review theatre programs and tenure applications, he was recently inducted into Marquis’ Who’s Who In America in Education for the 2023 publication. In 2021, Nate was awarded the highest award given to Nevada professors in the arts, the Regents’ Creative Activity Award. Twice (2004/2013) awarded UNLV’s College of Fine Arts’ highest honor for artistic excellence—The Charles Vanda Award—he is the proud grandfather of a lively 8-year-old.
